Become A Member

Membership in HJF is open to women 20 years of age or older. Membership shall not be denied on the basis of race, color, religion, or national origin.

If you are interested in any of the following, HJF membership is for you:

  • Serving the Houston community
  • Volunteer service with children, youth, women, and senior adults
  • Making new friends
  • Planning fundraising events
  • Participating in social activities including Mah Jongg, Book Club, Travel Group, and seasonal socials with guests/spouses

All 1-6 year members must do a minimum 35 hours of  which 25 of the required  hours of service must be performed at uniform service sites approved by the HJF Board of Directors.

Provisional Members (1st Year)
  •   Attend three General Meetings
  •   Members are required to do a minimum of these uniform hours as follows: Resale Shop (10 hours), children’s facility (5 hours), senior adult facility (5 hours).  Five hours must also be served at, or for the fundraising event or an HJF approved service site. The remaining 10 hours may be served on an HJF committee or at an approved service site.
  •   Pay annual dues 
Requirements for 2-6 Year Members
  • Attend three General Meetings
  • Complete 10 hours of uniformed service at the Resale Shop
  • Complete 15 hours at a service site of your choosing  at an approved service site
  • Complete the 10 hours of either HJF committee or at an approved service site
  • Pay annual dues 
Service Hours Required Annually
  • All 1-6 year members must do a minimum of 25 of the required 35 hours of service must be performed at uniform service sites approved by the HJF Board of Directors.

  • 2-3 year members: 35 hours required with a minimum of 25 uniform hours to be served at an approved HJF Service Site. The remaining hours can be served on a committee or at an approved service site.4-6 year members: 35 hours required with a minimum of 20 uniform hours to be served at an HJF approved service site. The remaining hours can be served on a committee or at an approved service site.
  • All 2-6 year members must serve 10 hours each year at the Resale Shop. Travel Time (up to 30 min.) may be added to hours served at an approved uniform service site. 
Requirements for Members with Over Six Years
  • No service is required (unless running for office)
  • Pay annual dues
